***PUMPED FOR POPPIES!***
We're going to be strategically sprinkling some lovely poppy varieties around our more public fields, just to make it all look fantastic. Stay tuned for more info on exactly when we'll need help, but most likely mid-March. Contact Josie if you're interested in lending a hand, or two.
2014 CSA Volunteer Opportunities
We will begin our volunteer schedule for the CSA in April 2014. No prior experience required, just a passion for gardening, agriculture, local food or simply being outside in nature! If you are interested in this uniquely satisfying volunteer opportunity, please contact our Volunteer Services Department at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions about volunteering. Here is our volunteer application form.
We are also searching for Volunteer Shareholders who would like to take their commitment to a higher level with the CSA. Volunteer Shareholders work three hours a week with us (a total of 60 hours) in exchange for a $160 discount on their vegetable share purchase. These positions are very important to the CSA and weekly attendance is mandatory. For more information on the Volunteer Shareholder program please email email@example.com
All new and returning regular volunteers will need to attend the training on May 3, 2014 at Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield for an informational tour and orientation.
We are looking for volunteers to help harvest, weed, and work on the farm on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 7-10 a.m. May through the end of October.
We are also looking for volunteers to help at distribution from 3-7p.m. at York Street on Tuesdays and at Chatfield on Thursdays, from June to November.
If you are a current CSA volunteer and would like to sign up for shifts or report your hours please click here.
General Description of Tasks
All volunteer positions will include a variety of tasks. There is not a volunteer job that focuses on one activity so each volunteer should be prepared to learn and try out the various tasks we offer.
While weeding, the volunteers will spend a lot of time on their knees and bent over. We will be primarily using handheld hoes to weed the beds in the CSA.
Volunteers will help harvest the CSA produce of the week which will be dependent on the time of year. Tasks will range from digging up roots, harvesting herbs and greens, to picking squash, cucumbers and other vegetables.
These volunteers will help with the set up for distribution by assembling tables with produce and signs. The volunteers will help keep produce stocked throughout the distribution time, greet members and assist them with collecting their weekly share. At the end of distribution the volunteers will assist with clean up and breaking down the distribution.
Each season we as staff and volunteers become part of a farming family. Here are some quotes from our core volunteers about their volunteer experience with the Chatfield CSA:
Amy: "I suffer from seasonal depression...and this is the first season that I don't feel it coming on. I think it's because I see why the seasons exist...the land needs to rest, the plants need to rest, and the farmers need to rest. It all makes sense to me now and it seems a lot more bearable."
Charlene: "This is cheaper and much better than therapy!"
Cindy: "I have no idea what I would have done this summer without having the farm to come to every week!"
